Reflection

Since completing our music video we have had various individuals view it and then, comment on what they believed the strengths and weaknesses to be.
One of the major strengths is the shots of our main actress sitting amongst the lamps as they turn on and off, together and also at random, this may be due to the extremity of the shot and the vast contrast between black and white.
As the character is sitting alone this presents the extreme loneliness she feels by also presenting the anxiety she may feel, this is shown when the lights turn on in a harsh manner. The mise en scene pictures a middle class home, this is unusual as most videos use a high end environment, something the viewer wishes to have not something they already have.
This singular shot may to some just appear unusual and for that they find it compelling however, to others it has a much more deep and meaningful out-take, it is different to everyone.
One individual was not keen on the black and white and believed that perhaps it should have been in colour, we did consider this but certain aspects would not have been perceived as well as they were in black and white.
The lighting in each shot was also very different from one another so by having it in colour it would be difficult to have the same effect continued throughout the video. The main issue is that the black and white portrays the continuing issue throughout the video; good and evil, light and darkness, the black and white represents these two sides and amplifies them, therefore black and white needed to be used.
However, the editing did change throughout the video after we watched Lady Gaga's 'Judas' music video, their is a brief scene in which a fade to black effect is used repetitively on the shots, we believed this to be interesting and also made a simple shot a lot more effective and different, this idea was then used on the shots of our leading character in the outside shots.

Elements to take to print
Although black and white produced mix opinions, I thoroughly like it and therefore will be taking the idea to print. The inside of my CD cover will include a picture of a river/forest, this is due to the fact nature is used a lot throughout the music video.
The 4 elements will be transferred onto the Digipak in some way as these are used continuously throughout the piece.

  1. A really good reflection in which you consider audience response and also justify creative decisions.

"this is unusual as most videos use a high end environment" - is this true? Should it be 'often' rather than 'most'?

Presentation a little messy. Paragraphing and subheadings don't do justice to clear argument of comments.
